Yes. It is definitely out.

Hey! We appeared to have suffered some catastrophic database failure and lost a few posts. But that's ok! At least the downloads section never failed us (: You can still download the mod from many locations, including:

Download from ModDB
Download from Mirrage
Download from FileFront
Download locally (slow)

Installation is easy - simply extract to your UT2004 folder.
Don't forget - you should really read the manual before playing!

For other downloads, head on over to the files page.

Oh yes. It's coming.

That's right - finally a public release is just around the corner!

Stay posted because amidst Christmas shenanigans we hope to finally be able to bring you a finished mod of a quality you'd expect for such a long wait.

In the meantime, please enjoy our latest offering of a new trailer, which you can also download on the files page.

No More Brisbane

We're kind of changing direction a bit here - most of the team has very little time to put into the mod these days what with work commitments and all that real life kinda stuff.

Our Brisbane map is no longer a realistic option. It's too big and requires much more work than any of us can really put in without delaying the mod for several months or years. So we're just going to bite the bullet and scrap it entirely.

Luckily, mapper extraordinaire Valkyrie is still working hard on a rendition of Melbourne. The rest of the team will be refocusing their efforts on helping with that, rather than dividing our resources on two separate maps.

Keep watching for updates and progress from Valkyrie!

We're Back!

Say hello to our shiny new website which is impervious to hackings and other annoyances!

We've been through all the old content and rebuilt the site from scratch and thankfully we're at a point now where it's all back online and working and we can get on with the mod.

To anyone who thinks we're dead - we aren't!
Development has continued behind the scenes and we have been working hard on miscellaneous graphical enhancements, bugfixes and balance issues. The vehicles have all had their handling tweaked to be made *much* faster for the new, larger, maps we have in mind.

Thankyou for your patience, and please stay posted. More news is coming soon...

Furious Steals Goes Live!

So. At long last, I've made the site ready for the wider world to see. Our gameplay video has been uploaded to various places, all the content sections are filled out, and in a minute or so I'm going to go and take a handful of screenshots to put on the images page.

Welcome all!

If it's your first time here, you should probably go read the about page to find out what this mod is all, erm, about. We've been in development for about 4 months (off and on), and now that we've opened our doors I can tell you that you're looking at a finished product.

Well, not really. We are actually still hard at work on our feature map - once this is done we will be ready to release. Please bear with us as this is indeed a mammoth undertaking. Incidentally, if anyone out there is keen to help us with our mapping by adding their talents to the mapping department or converting a previous map to work with our mod, we would be very excited to hear from you, so please drop me an email. After all, the more the merrier, and if we can get enough maps included with the mod it might be worth releasing early and adding our own map as a separate download later.

So, that's about all for now. If you would like a bit of an insight into our development process or just want to see what we've been up to for the past few months, don't hesitate to check out our developer diaries.

Thanks for reading!

Our First Closed Beta

Well, it's been a while coming but finally a second news post happens. I guess I should have foresaw when we started this 3 and a half months ago that there would probably only be a post for 'hello' and one for 'finished'.

Of course the mod is not 100% finished, but (any bugs that might crop up notwithstanding) the programming and most other stuff is. We are short a map, a main menu design and a couple of art assets, but those will hopefully come in the next little while.

I can only write this on behalf of myself because I have no idea how the other team members feel, but this has been one of the most enjoyable projects I've worked on. It seems like every time I finish something I come out thinking I did it pretty well, but then I go into something new and work out even better ways to do things. Furious Steals is no exception - when I finished Marshmallow Duel last year I thought I had it all down, but coming out of this I've done things much more eloquently. In particular I'd like to stress that the netcode for this game is very solid, clientside things are done entirely clientside as they should be and all in all the game runs very smoothly. There are maybe 1 or 2 bugs, and those are more annoyances than real problems.

In any case, Furious Steals is a very solid game that should run flawlessly on anybody's PC. It's a big claim to make, and we'll see how it pans out.

And now for some random statistics, courtesy of my programming IDE's way of filing things:

- Development time : 79 Days
- Total programming time : 7 days, 14 hours, 38 minutes
- Number of lines (excluding blank lines) : 13026

Now, the reason I've said 'Closed Beta' is that we'll be presenting the game to a bunch of random students at QUT in the next couple of days. They will have a chance to play the game, and will hopefully give us valuable info on how the game is recieved. It will also be our biggest playtest session to date.

Following that, we'll be working for a little while longer on finalising the mod and getting things polished off. This basically means finishing up our map and adding more vehicles and skins. Then we'll probably do a bit of video recording and finally make our presence known to the wider world.

Until then, stay posted.

Site Online

The Furious Steals website is now (vaguely) online!

It needs a total overhaul, which will come relatively soon. Other than that, you can probably expect not a lot of news for a while, since we don't plan to do any real publicity until everything is finished.
